After a fabulous success with the recent version, Smart is now preparing to supplement the market with another great version. Referred to as the 2015 Smart ForTwo Electric, the new Smart version is expected to retain its infinitesimal track but get a larger interior and a more distinct design. Its overall length will remain at 2.69m which is considered enough to house the three 3-cylinder power-trains, the perfectly outlined rear-wheel drive and all other safety and entertainment features.
2015 Smart ForTwo Electric – Specs
As seen in most photos online, the 2015 Smart ForTwo Electric is purely a redesigned version of the current model. Its footprint is increased while the bonnet is elevated. As for the front grille, it has been enlarged, lights reshaped while the honeycomb features a lighter effect. The taillights are now multi-part and come enriched with LED lighting technology. Though somehow larger than it was in its predecessor, the interior of the new ForTwo electric is still little. Under the rear seats, there lies a 975L trunk. The centre console boasts a number of advanced equipment among the key ones being heated seats, infotainment display, electronic front windows and a color 3.5-inch display.
2015 Smart ForTwo Electric – Engines
As for the preferred power generators for the new ForTwo electric, there will be three engine options to consider. The first in the list is a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder power-train able of generating 70 hp and torque of 68 lb-ft. Smart will provide a 5-speed auto-manual transmission that will help to transmit power from the engine to the rear wheels. The two other are electrically-initiated engines and include a 55 kW motor and 17.6 kWh Li-ion battery. When set on burst mode, the electric motor can generate a power output of 74 horses.
2015 Smart ForTwo Electric – Performance
Based on the results from our test, the new ForTwo is a bit slow when compared to other city cars as it takes 14.1 seconds before it can move from 0 to 60 mph. Its fuel capacity is rated at 8.7 gallons while the fuel economy is estimated at 36 miles per gallon combines, 34 miles per gallon city and 38 miles per gallon highway. When on the electric drive mode, this city car takes 11.5 seconds to move from 0 to 60 metres per hour. When fully charged, the electric motor is able to drive the car 68 miles. The motor has an estimated efficiency rate of 32 kilowatts per hour. If you are charge the battery using a 240 volts charging station, it will take six hours before it is charged fully. Though it isn’t the most eco-friendly city cars, 2015 Smart ForTwo Electric offers among the best eco-friendliness r gas rates as it only generates 93 grams of carbon dioxide in each kilometer.
